Not quite graduate school

So, I’ve written off and on about my attempts for graduate school. I think I’d like to go to graduate school, but I still don’t have a solid idea for which degree I’d like to pursue. My GRE scores will not expire for another two years…so I still have time! Not much, but it’s still there. I will not be applying for the Fall of 2013. Perhaps I’ll apply for the Fall of 2014 or even the Spring of 2015. First, I’ll have to figure out which degree and school(s) I’d like to apply for.

In the mean time, I’ve signed up for an online certification program. It’s through the University of California Berkeley’s Extension School. The full name of the program is: Post-Baccalaureate Professional Certificate Program in Writing. There’s no long formal application for this program: just your transcripts (to prove you have a Bachelor’s Degree) and your credit card. The program requires seven courses which will be on my transcript and eligible for transfer. The certificate itself (upon completion) will be noted on my transcript and can be included on my resume. I’m also hoping that the course work will help strengthen my writing portfolio.

Hello California! (well, via online. LOL)

I am worried I put too much on my plate, as I have signed up for two courses starting this month. I suspect that I will be busier, but I welcome the challenge. I’m knocking out the two required courses right away, and then it’s just elective choices. The classes have a staggering start and finish date (by one week) and the course names are: The Craft of Writing and Writing Skills Workshop.  Thanks to What The Book (a great store to order English books in Korea), I’ve already received the required texts for both courses.  Wish me luck!

I wish you much luck in your endeavors! I have been toying with going to grad school or not, and got accepted into a few programs, but one costs so much that I just don’t think I’ll be able to go, your post helped me see that there are other options to achieving my goals, thank you for helping me to relax!

    1. Congratulations on your accepted applications! I only applied once. I didn’t get accepted, but I have a feeling it’s because of my limited portfolio and lack of any experience in technical writing. I’m glad you can relax though. Graduate school choices can be so stressful–and that’s not even including the coursework once the semester starts. 😉
